Short answers about Verso, as it is today. It is in alpha, and this page changes with it.
01 What is Verso?
A browser for the Mac, and only the Mac. It runs on WebKit, the engine behind Safari, and puts your tabs in a sidebar. Spaces keep your logins apart, a command bar searches tabs, history and the web from one field, and everything works from the keyboard. It is in alpha.
02 Is Verso free?
Yes, it is free to install and use.
03 What do I need to run it?
macOS 26 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon. There is no version for Intel Macs, Windows or Linux.
04 Does Verso use AI?
Not in the cloud. Its helpers tidy tab titles, suggest a Space for a new tab, write three sentences on a page or a selection and find a history page by what its title meant. They run through Apple Intelligence and the language model macOS keeps, on your Mac. Nothing leaves it, and one switch turns them all off.
05 What does Verso send about me?
No analytics, no crash reports and no account. The app talks to the sites you open, checks their addresses with Google Safe Browsing and Apple through WebKit's fraudulent-website warning, as Safari does, and asks GitHub for updates when you choose Check for Updates, or once a day if you turned automatic checks on. PRIVACY.md in the releases repository lists every connection the app makes on its own.
06 Is Verso open source?
No. Verso is closed source and takes no outside contributions. Its builds, the update feed and the issue tracker are in a public repository on GitHub, theescodes/verso-releases.
07 Do Chrome extensions work?
Many do. Verso installs them from the Chrome Web Store and runs them on WebKit, whose extension interface is smaller than Chrome's, so some do not start and some show less than they should. The extensions page lists what we checked.
08 Can I bring my tabs and bookmarks from Arc or Safari?
Yes. File → Import from Arc… brings in your Spaces, pins, folders and history, read from Arc's files on your Mac. Bookmarks and history from Safari come in through File → Import from Browser….
09 Does Verso sync between my Macs?
Not yet. Sync of Spaces, pins and bookmarks is planned, through your own iCloud, only if you turn it on, and without an account of Verso's own.
10 How do I uninstall Verso?
Dragging it to the Trash removes the app but not what it keeps. The uninstall page lists the steps that remove everything.
11 Where do I report a bug?
In the issues of the releases repository on GitHub: a site that breaks, a bug or an idea. A security issue goes in privately, as the repository's SECURITY.md says.
